Cat Urinary Tract Infections Are Serious

Urinary tract infections (UTI) are uncomfortable and extremely painful for pets and people alike. They tend to be more common in cats than dogs and can be caused by bacterial infection, bladder stones or urolithiasis (stones in the urinary tract). The medical term for cat urinary tract infections is called, feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD). Cat uti's frequently recur and can lead to more damaging kidney infections if not given any attention.

Conventional treatment of cat urinary tract infection depends on the specific cause of the problem. Often, antibiotics which will relieve the animals symptoms rather speedily. The issue with antibiotics on the other hand, is they tend to weaken the immune system which can cause further problems, especially in the long-term and if they are prescribed regularly for recurrent infection.
